In 2023 Peace Lutheran Church of Bay Ridges began to embark on a new digital strategy. Our church is a pillar of the Pickering community and we work closely with members and partner organizations to help individuals struggling with homelessness, mental health issues, or lack of access to fundamental services like food, shelter, and education. We no longer want to be Durham Region's best kept secret, which is why we need your help to create that online WOW factor that makes people want to participate in our mission and become a member of our church.

 

In this summer job the successful candidate will have an exciting opportunity to help Peace Lutheran Church improve its online and digital presence through website development, curating online content, building consistency and connectivity across platforms, and helping our organization make an excellent first impression to those searching for a place to build community within the city of Pickering and surrounding Durham Region.

 

Under the supervision of our Senior Pastor and with support from members of our Church Council (similar to a board of directors), below is a summary of what you'll be doing in the role:

 

 

Website Design

  • Integrate Livestreaming
  • Create Events Calendar
  • Create Events & Rentals Registration Portal
  • Integrate Podcast into website
  • Construct sermon library from Youtube streams
  • Integrate social media account updates onto website
  • Perform SEO analysis
  • Optimize website content for SEO results
  • Establish Blog
  • Create permissioning for back end site access
  • Integrate Charitable Giving tools into website design
  • Integrate Newsletter into Website
  • Establish website tracking tools for continuous improvements
  • Establish reporting related to tracking metrics

 

Mobile App

  • Work with Tithe.Ly support team to establish key features
  • Stress Test and Debug app to ensure seamless user experience
  • Run Mobile App tests with preliminary focus group
  • Integrate focus group feedback
  • Launch member Email and Text blast to get at least 50% member downloads
  • Set up process to track clickthrough rates and feature utilization

 

Church Management System Migration

  • Migrate member contact information
  • Integrate giving tools with member tracking
  • Sync existing donation tools and info to member tracking
  • Establish process for issuing Email Blasts to members
  • Integrate newsletter into E-Blast
  • Set up text messaging service for special reminders and campaigns

 

Social Media Integration

  • Set up social media presence on all major platforms where PLC is absent
  • Integrate social media accounts back into website and mobile app
  • Establish recurring social media posts to ensure accounts remain current/relevant
  • Set up permissioning of who can update social accounts
  • Test content performance and create benchmarking
  • Create tracking/reporting showing subscriber growth, views, content interactions, etc.

 

Build out new website design using Tithe.Ly

  • For all items above, document all processes and procedures
  • Establish a user friendly manual (including charts, graphics, etc.)
  • Investigate process optimization and efficiency
  • Establish automated processes where possible for repetitive, time consuming tasks

 

The role is part of the Canada Summer Jobs program. The placement is for a 8 week window expected to begin June 3rd. 

  • Hours per week: 35
  • Hourly Rate: $18/hr
  • Work environment: Hybrid, mix of on site office environment as well as remote

In order to be eligible, participants must:

  • Be between 15-30 years of age, at the start of the funded position.
  • Be a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or someone to whom Refugee Status has been granted/conferred.
  • Have a valid SIN
  • International students, and those who are here in Canada on a work, youth, or visitor visa/permit are not eligible for the program.
